Founding Member of Technical Staff

AI Research & EngineeringFull-time

Apply for this role

The role

We’re looking for exceptional AI research engineers to join our core team as founding members. You’ll have what serious research requires: large-scale GPU compute, real enterprise environments, and complex tasks and data from leading enterprises. The role sits where research, engineering and real-world problem solving meet. Beyond deep technical skill, you’ll work directly with customers and design partners, quickly get to the heart of hard problems in unfamiliar domains, frame them as clear technical problems, and lead the work from problem definition through to results.

What you’ll do

  • Build recursive self-improvement systems that let AI agents keep improving on real, complex tasks
  • Advance agent learning, long-horizon reasoning, reinforcement learning and LLM post-training
  • Build advanced agent systems: reasoning, tool use, memory, context management and complex task execution
  • Train models and run experiments on large-scale GPU compute to validate new approaches quickly
  • Work directly with technical teams and business leaders at leading enterprises to understand their most important and most complex problems
  • Get up to speed fast in unfamiliar domains, and find the real technical bottleneck behind incomplete or ambiguous requirements
  • Turn real enterprise problems into well-posed AI problems, with evaluation criteria and technical approaches
  • Bring the latest AI advances into real enterprise environments, and iterate quickly on real-world feedback
  • Define and drive key technical projects from zero to one, with end-to-end ownership of direction and outcomes
  • Shape the company’s core technical direction and long-term roadmap with the founding team
  • Help recruit and mentor the research and engineering team as it grows

What we’re looking for

  • A PhD in CS, AI, ML or a related field, or an equivalent research or engineering track record
  • Significant technical work at a frontier AI lab, a leading AI startup, or a core AI team at a major tech company
  • Deep expertise in at least one of: reinforcement learning, LLM post-training, agent systems, long-horizon reasoning, evaluation, or training systems
  • Strong customer-facing technical skills: you understand a customer’s problem quickly, communicate well with senior technical and business stakeholders, and turn messy real-world problems into actionable technical ones
  • The ability to learn an unfamiliar industry, workflow or technical domain quickly
  • The judgment to decide which problems actually matter, rather than only executing an existing roadmap
  • Experience carrying work from problem definition through experimentation and training to real-world deployment
  • Strong engineering execution, technical judgment and ownership

Nice to have

  • A core technical role at a frontier AI lab or a fast-growing AI startup
  • Large-scale RL, post-training or distributed training experience
  • Experience with long-horizon agents, coding agents or complex tool-use systems
  • Direct experience solving hard technical problems with enterprise customers or design partners
  • Strong publications, significant open-source work, or technical work adopted in real products
  • Early-stage startup or founding-team experience
